Cryptologic Buys OIGE Maltese License for InterCasino

Cryptologic, the veteran casino gaming software company, has purchased Maltese licensing from OIGE Ltd. for InterCasino.  InterCasino is a Cryptologic based casino established back in 1996.  OIGE is a Malta-based company that owns a number of casinos.  They sold the local licensing to Cryptologic in exchange for “nominal consideration.”  The Maltese Lotteries and Gaming Authority gave the green light for the licensing transfer.

Some online casino reviews believe that Cryptologic only bought the licensing as a last ditch effort to prop up their value before the potential purchase by Amaya Gaming Group.  Amaya, a Canadian gaming firm, is currently in the process of negotiations to possibly purchase the veteran company for as much as £34.5 million.  The licensing deal, which comes only days before Amaya is expected to release an official declaration about their intent of purchase, would be otherwise strange if not directly related to the deal in the works.

If the deal comes into fruition, it would certainly be big news in the online gaming world.  Cryptologic, which has been making quality online casino games since 1996, has had a major impact on the online casino industry.  With over 300 games under their belt, you’d be hard pressed to find someone in the online casino industry who has never played a Cryptologic game.  Looking at the industry as a whole, it appears that this major purchase may be Amaya’s efforts to keep up with Playtech.  Playtech has recently raised much funding via IPO’s and purchased a number of smaller casino software companies.  Amaya’s potential purchase of Cryptologic could position it as a serious competitor to Playtech.
